Nikolas Trawny is a Robotics System Engineer in the Guidance and Control Section of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Since joining JPL in 2010, he has been working on safe and precise landing technology for Moon, Mars, and Europa. He was the hazard detection system lead on the Autonomous Landing and Hazard Avoidance Technology (ALHAT) project, the algorithm lead for the Mars 2020 Lander Vision System (LVS), and is currently the LVS lead for the Mars Sample Return Lander. Nikolas received a Diplom-Ingenieur degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota.
